* Sodium hydroxide is an essential ingredient in the soap making process. It combines with oils and butters to create a special chemical reaction called saponification which forms soap. Without sodium hydroxide you cannot make soap. You only have a bowl of oils. Sodium hydroxide is used up in the chemical reaction and there is none left in the finished product.
